Giving young Afghan girls access to a complete and quality secondary education.

It was in reaction to the Taliban’s seizure of power, the consequences of which for women were all too predictable, that Dominique Dupuy decided to create, in 2022, an association dedicated to supporting these women, and in particular the youngest among them, who were quickly deprived of education. Nayestane has set itself the mission of offering the latter access to education, and the older ones the opportunity to continue an income-generating activity and social relations.

The association’s temporary learning spaces take place directly within the homes of the teachers, with the agreement of the male figures, parents of the teachers and owners of these spaces. Classes are given six half-days per week thanks to the prior work of the Franco-Afghan team present in France, which is responsible for their design and makes them available to teachers via an encrypted application. Nayestane’s approach is meant to be holistic, which is why it associates the communities of the areas where it intervenes at all stages of the project in order to ensure the project’s positive reception and its lasting appropriation by these members.

Since 2022, the association has enabled nearly 3,500 young girls from 22 different provinces to continue their education, thanks to 181 teachers and through 147 spaces.

As part of an annual emergency support, Milk for Good supported learning the trade of garment-making (embroidery and weaving) for around thirty young girls, so that they can practice it in their homes and derive a source of income from it.
